This Lincoln works fine in AM/FM but has a constant carrier when switched to ssb anyone have an idea on this?

if its always been like that check the carrier balance vr,if its just started and you've been using a power mike could be the inductor on the mike socket board,i seen that before on a 3900 and it was the inductor on the mike socket board had fried due to a power mike burning it out.

If the Carrier Balance has not been jacked around then Look to see if there is a Mica Insulator installed behind the Final Transistor(Mrf 477/Mrf497) if not unbolt the transistor and put one in with a bit of heat sink compound...don't go crazy with the compound,,,it is there to fill any small gaps behind behind the transistor.
Another thing to look at is the 2 disc capacitors connected in parallel
on the bottom of the board that are across the final. You can unsolder and remove them, they are the 38MHz pull off for the final, and have been known to cause problems. I have seen a few that would work fine with the covers off and go wack when the covers are put back on.
Make sure you disconnect the power from the radio before working on it, the final is still hot even with the power off.
This is all assuming that you are comfortable soldering in your radio......
