Saw some earlier comments about VOX in a negative sort of way.
VOX is great for mobile. You can get a wired mic or you can rig up a wireless headset with some ingenuity.
I use a Samson pro audio earset mic on VOX, Makes mobile radio so much easier.

Today I tested low dk and high in AM. Gave me less than 1/2 and 3 3/4 on high setting.
On SSB I whistled on low to about 5-7w and 12-15w on high using my Asatic PDC1 meter.
There is no separate adjustment between AM and SSB.. Just 1 knob..
So if you want to run an RM amp on a budget this will easily turn down.
I get a 1/2w difference between ch 1 and ch 40.

Interesting - I was expecting to see something similar to a Uniden 980 or Grant II but the board looks different than both. Guess I'll have to get my hands on one to have a closer look.
