Protecting braided wire

I'm going to be using a fair amount of braided wire for both the mobiles and the base and need some ideas.
What are you all using to keep corrosion/oxidation down?
my thoughts are just some rubberized spray paint(same as liquid elec tape) that way its protected but still can flex with cracking...what else ya got?
