PVC Mast Strength

What size is the handle? How well does it fit the antenna mount which I believe takes a 1 1/2 to 2 inch mast?

OD=1.025"
ID=1.0"

Same OD as common TV mast which is what I was using for flat side. The manual does say to use a mast size of 1.5 - 2", but it tightens down well on a 1.025 mast. I think it will work OK. If the antenna was bigger and heavier I would use something much sturdier.

Yea I love Black ABS pipe. The stuff is a lot more forgiving then the PVC pipe. In my younger and perhaps not as intelligent years I got into making cannons. I found that the PVC after a few shots would become extemely brittle and shatter. However the ABS after many many many shot it still held true. Even got a softball to travel a half mile. So the ABS is extremely durable.
 
Yeah I considered PVC for a half minute when building my spud cannon. I went with the ABS once I realized just how much compression hair spray can produce when you set it off in a closed combustion chamber. Ever see the Mythbuster's episode where Adam asks "Am I missing an eyebrow?" :whistle:
 
I probably should have been more clear about the type of cannon I was creating. They were black powder. Just from the extreme heat cycles the PVC would go through caused the PVC to shatter. I know in one ABS cannon that I created I fired over 100 shots with a 35mm film cansiter full of black powder as a charge. Not even the slightest hint of stress or fractures.

I hope I am not hijacking a thread. :oops:
