There you are, trolling the hf, when you hear some guy calling cq. Looking to strike up a little CSO you go ahead and answer his call.

Xxxxxx this is xxxxxx personal here is xxxxxx, over.

Typical call back. Then dude comes back and tells you that hams dont have "personals", drops your CSO and starts calling CQ again.

ive addressed them before n get to the point without cussin em out like they need. geezers like that make new people quit radioing
next time you get 1 of them,if they dont reply say give your fcc callsign or be in violation of fcc rules at end of your transmission

This is kind of amusing to me, as many, many old ham operators say “the personal here is…”, so it is as common to use that phrase, as it is to have someone tell you hams don’t have “personals”.

If that happens to you again, ask the ham operator which section of Part 97 states you are not to use the term “personal” ?
