Bought this at a pawn shop for a great price and it has only one problem, if you want to call it that. When receiving the S-meter reads way high like someone adjusted it to get a full peg when anyone is 5 miles or closer.
What pot adjusts the S-meter in receive mode?

VR1 for AM and VR2 for SSB. To do it correctly, use a signal generator and set it to RF output of 100uV into the rig. The service manual has the adjustments for the entire RX alignment procedure.

To set the S meter on my radios - I find this method very accurate and a lot cheaper than buying another piece of equipment.

I have my brother go out to my car and key up the radio in my vehicle - just 40 ft from outside my shack. No modulation - just key the mic. I then adjust the meter to the far right-side edge of the meter - on the edge of the red and the black. It works quite well, and is very effective in getting it in the ball park. Works for me, and proven to be very accurate. I just thought I would pass this along - maybe it will help...

All I want to do is set the meter adjustment back so the meter doesn't break. The transmit is dead on frequency. Can't beat a $40 Malaysian 148 that works great!
Thanks for the info....I did a bunch of searches and found out how to peak and upgrade the final, volt the final, add channels, but nothing on meter adjustments.

You should use a signal generator really. Failing that, use a factory set rig and set it to the same reading.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
