QUESTION ABOUT PRESIDENT MADISON

Ok I've a lead on a president Madison. After many questions and some research on a president Madison I've decided to purchase one. I didn't buy it yet but something sounds odd. The owner tells me ssb is 12 watts which sounds correct but it dead keys at 3 on am and swings to 12. I know depending on the meter being used readings can be a bit different. my current set up is a Sonar fs 2340. It dead keys at 2.5 and swings to 6 on a workman newer meter. I think the workman is fairly accurate as the readings are exactly the same on my dosy. I'm using it with an amp that has a 35 amp power supply. It has a coat of arms on it with a lion in it. From my research it's a Palomar elite 500. The amp was produced under several different names. Might it be the meter he's using or is it normal for an unmodified Madison to dead key at 3 and swing so high on am. Although this amp doesn't have an ssb selector switch it does recognize ssb as I hooked up a Browning mklll, transmitted on ssb and the amp worked well on ssb the mklll on ssb is another story. Will a dead key of 3 swinging to 12 be a bit to much for this amp to handle on am? I would hate to fry this amp as it's been working excellent on am with my Sonar. I hate to do anything to this Madison(if I get it). As I said it's supposed to be unmodified. Any sugestions? I do have other old 11 meter sweep tube amp I could use but I don't recall ever using anything with that kind of swing on any of those amps either. I would like to stay with the no tune no 15 minute warm up time lion crest amp I'm currently using.

3W swinging 12W on AM seems a little high for an unmodified radio, but it could be the meter he's using. You can use the radio with that amp you describe, it shouldn't harm it any with that deadkey. I don't see any major issues with all of this so far. Good luck! :)

~Cheers~

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
