Ranger 2970 - No Speaker Sound

The internal speaker of my Ranger 2970 all of a sudden went mute. I plug an external speaker from the back of the unit and that worked. Is it possible that the speaker burned out? Can this be replaced with a standard 8 ohm 3 Watt speaker found from the outside? Please advise!

    Is it possible to be on a lake and have a homing directional beam being emitted from the shore so a person could navigate to that beam's source? For example at night to a jetty.
