Ranger made Cobra 148?

The Malaysian factory where it was made does indeed belong to Ranger Communications International, the parent company of Ranger USA. RCI has factories there, in Taiwan, mainland China and Vietnam.

Oh, and the name of the town in Malaysia where the RCI factory is located is "Melaka".

1994 was the year after Cobra stopped buying the 148 from Uniden and hired a low bidder. In this case, RCI. Other suppliers of the 148 have come and gone over the last 25 years. Cobra never seems to stop looking for a lower bidder.

One way to be sure is to see if the circuit board has the number "EPT0148" on it. That number will identify a product of an RCI factory.

LOL - yeah, but the wonderful 148F-GTL I had certainly had RANGER printed on the chip - hard to find photos of that thru the web...that technology we see now, didn't translate back then.

We still had the old Slide Viewers and Kodak was just getting into "Burning a CD of your photos"

But I do NOT miss Fotomat...

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
