I was wondering if there Is a way to tell when a RANGER RCI-69FFB4 was built? The reason I ask is.I just bought one. And I asked the gentlemen who has the radio If he knew which type transistors the amp had either toshiba 2sc2879's or chinese made one's? And he said he had no ideal. I have the serial number if that would be of help? Does anyone know how long they used the toshiba 2sc2879 before they switched over. Don't know how true it Is. I have read that the chinese made 2sc2879 is junk? All comments are welcome.

Usually the first one or two digits in the serial number indicate the year it was produced.

I'm here, had some real life stuff pull me away for a while, but I am still here!

What is the first 2 digits of the serial number on the radio?

~Cheers~

Yeah, things are calming down now. Getting things back into order so I can do some radio repair again.

As far as the radio goes, I think the radio will have the Toshiba 2879's in it. Current radios use the DEI's which are not as good. They are ok as long you don't over-volt them or over drive them. I have noted that they do cause self-oscillations in some radios and amps.

If you really like the radio, go for it if the price is reasonable. At worst, if the radio has DEI's in the PA, you can swap them out for Toshibas and be fine (although it may be pricey).

But I think you may be safe, and the radio should have the Toshibas in it.

~Cheers~

Hey, I am glad to hear that things are looking better, I think you are really good at repairing radios and building amplifiers. After all I should know. I bought the galaxy saturn turbo with the new upgraded computer power supply. Dam good job you did on that one. Also bought that homemade 4 pill mobile amplifier from you. Can I say kick ass build job you did there. In my opinion you are very knowledgeable when It comes to working and building amps and radios. Just my two cents lol.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
