Ranger Superstar SS-158VC6 ???

Update ~ It's on the way and looking good ... ... Pheww, was getting nervous LMAO !!......
Hopefully it won't get lost in the mail but it's on the way ~ More to come.....

I'll update again after I've taken it around the block... ....

How did you make it with yours? I have one brand new from Walcott, on ssb it sounds horrible when I transmit, like I'm on one of those tv shows where they try to disguise a person's voice, paid for the align and tune, kinda wish I didn't. Receives great and sounds great on AM but ssb is unusable for me.
UPDATE 5-12-25 I received my radio about 5 days ago and it turned out much better than I had expected... ... The 11 meter bands have been crap for several days but today I started using it and Wow, I'm very impressed with everything.... ... The modulation is extremely strong and it sounds like big watt radio... ... I have all of 11 & 10 meter bands and the A99 antenna is working great... .... Truck CB Sales is running about 1 month behind on mail-in radios but I tell you it was so worth the wait and cast, I paid about $160 for everything I wanted done to this radio and it turned out fantastic... .... Today I made contacts from Central Arizona to Florida up to Delaware over to Oregon and everywhere in between plus I hit 1 in New Zealand and 1 in Australia.... ... Everyone I talked to commented on the sound saying it sounds like a big watt radio... ... She makes an easy 450 peak watts but it's the modulation that makes it sound like a +kw rig......
Here's the video they made about it.... ....

I Hope Yours Turns Out Good For You... This one is a real Boomer,,,,
Good Luck - 44 Dan.... 903 Central Arizona

Mine is still in the shop... I have high expectations ~ we shall see...........

UPDATE ~ She finally came home and she's much much better than I had hoped for.... .... Sounds like a 1K Radio.... The modulation was what I was more interested in and it excels in that area... ... Huge difference between what I got and what it is now, absolutely no comparison... Truck CB Sales knocked this box out of the park... .. It does everything it's supposed to do plus a few other and it does it all at a very high quality level....... It makes the long wait well worth it ~I'd do it all over again gladly... ... Cost me about $160 and she's putting out a conservative 450 watts and the amp section can be turned on/off.... The video he made regarding this radio is below....

I'm glad they did a good job and that you are satisfied, and I have nothing against truckerized, so don't take this the wrong way.

I think when a shop starts to get that far behind and acknowledges it in their videos, advertising isn't the best use of time. How long does it take to set up to shoot a video and post-edit it with the company intro and outro - bout an hour from start to upload. If I were him, I'd take a break from making videos and get the shop caught up. Unless, of couse, youtube is bringing in more than the repairs. At least offer the option to expidite the repair by declining a video report. Maybe he does, IDK.

It seems like he does good work, and you saying he does, but his video is just another bird wattmeter ad IMO. I;m not knocking it, apparently his strategy worked, but I think It would be cool if radio shops started doing tune-up reports that include the performance points listed in the radio's specifications.

Edit: I know, it would take too long and they would get further behind, its a balance. But once in a while just to prove their tune meets or beats factory would be cool. I think a dozen of those videos would be way better for business than hundreds of watt meter proofs. Sorry for the rant. Glad they did a good job.

I understand your point and absolutely no offense taken.... ... What I learned about how this works today is the New Sales with radio service request take priority over mail-in radio service request.... People buying new radio's are no different from people sending in radios that are in need of service in that we all want our radios as quick as possible... ... I understand how the shops have chosen to conduct their business and you have to run your business how you want to.... Had I done more research perhaps I would've discovered the way it works and could've made a more informed decision and understood better as things unfolded.... Then there's my timing of doing this at the busiest time of the year LOL !!.... Next time you bet I'll buy from a reputable Dealer & Shop so that my new radio will get to me how I want it in a timely manner.... One other shop I was considering is Les Comms but at that time he, like other shops had to stop taking mail-ins and he said some radios are at a one year wait so I had to pass.... If you looked at Lesters background it is easy to see he is about as knowledgeable as one could possibly get regarding 2 way radios and I consider him to be among the very best... On to #2 Brian with TruckCBSales.com ... Everything considered plus I've had time to really see the massive improvement of my once unhappy purchase from Walcott the radio is everything the Rep from Ranger Communications said it was and with Truck CB Sales technical expertise it is so much more... It is the result of Ranger listening to the complaints regarding the SSB & Freebanding group and came up with the VC6 using the SS-158 model.... The one common comment I get without asking or saying anything is how well it sounds... ... It was built with enhanced modulation added to it and Truck took that and enhanced it even further... It sounds like a 1k radio I am told and the next item will be a much bigger and stronger antenna than my very good A99.... I don't think Ill ever know if there is a better shop out there because from what Ive seen so far Truck is more than good enough for this guy... It was well worth the wait and I learned so much more.... Thanks for your comment Brandon7861 .... See Ya On The Flipside ~ 73.... ..... 44 Dan the 903 Central Arizona .....

~~~~~~UPDATE 7/13/25~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~UPDATE 7/13/25~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Ranger Superstar SS-158VC6 continues to operate flawlessly with zero problems.... ... I still get what I consider genuine positive comments regarding how well this radio sounds compared to others.... Comments from folks that are curious about what I have and what I did to it to make it sound like that - not the regular comments that are usually given just being courteous ... ... I operate mostly on the CB band SSB Ch#35L thru 40L with some AM.... I'm also bouncing around the Freeband arena experiencing minimal drifting (minimal compared to all the other radios I have used) and clear audio on all modes... ... So far this project after a bumpy start has delivered beyond my expectations... The radio is easy and quick to relocate to my mobile for longer trips and does so much more (450W) than my QT60 (60W) which isn't a bad radio at all... ... Next up I will be upgrading (hopefully) to a small tower with much better antenna's after I get relocated to my new property... ...
FROM - "NJDAN30"
"I wanted to ask you also, when you got your radio did it have all the channels? Mine didn't have below channel 1 but o fixed that by moving a jumper so now the high low button works. Just curious if you'd was the same?"
njdan30 To answer a question you had asked and I wanted to answer after she was fully tested....
Frequency range starts 24.600 and ends 29.655 in it's current unlocked configuration...
That's All I Have To Update And I Wanted To Thank Everyone Again For Your Input & Comments ... ...
I highly recommend Truckcbsales.com for your radio, antenna, amplifiers or answering your questions... Brian is definitely one of the very Best Technicians with a wealth of knowledge... 73
