RCA 2-Way radio ?

Well they aren't ham radios but I picked up 3 RCA model # mfbt3 radios at a yard sale today for $5. I bought them with the intention of using them to practice soldering with and they had some really heavy duty locking slide mounts. Just for grins I hooked them up and all power up and have output on TX of some kind (dont have a vhf/uhf meter)but they showed 30w on a PDC 600 meter. Now I'm wondering if they could maybe be used for 2 meter or 440 or Murs?? They are 2 channel radios and there is 2 pills in them. 1 is a MRF 641 and the other is a MRF 646. I can't find any info on the radio or pills. Anyone have an idea what freq. range they might be?

Sounds like they may be UHF rigs for use around 450MHz or so.The MRF641 is a UHF RF output rated at 15 w output and the MRF646 is also UHF and rated for 45 w.Both are rated to 470 MHz or 512 MHz. depending on whose spec sheet you read.Could possibly be VHF but I doubt it.

Well no luck with the local shops on finding a repair manual or schematic. I Just pulled the cover off the 3rd one and found a old (1981) repair sticker. Freq 468.500 with 131.8 tone so it looks like it's possible to use for a UHF repeater if I can find some info to work with. Go searching around yahoo user groups. Yahoo seems to have some sort of usergroup out there for just about anything. Join the RCA group, if there is one and ask there. I joined the GE group and got drawings for my GE radio.

Thanks everyone. I just found a service manual. Although it just doubled my investment. I now have $10.00 into the project.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">
