Hello,
I have searched and cannot find a receive mod for the 2970N4. If its there I dont find it. I had one years ago and sold it but I dont remember the receive being so bad, its not even close to my AT quad 6. Is there any mods out there????? Also it has some blacked out 2sc2879's and the output tune SUCKS!!!! So I need to drop in 4 Toshibas that I have. I guess I bought a basket case.

The Anytone radios have very very good receive. The only old school radio I have that comes close to my 5555N2 is my side mic Cobra 148GTL from 1994. In fact the Cobra has slightly tighter sideband filters, but in every other way the Anytone's are spectacular on receive and it makes many older radios seem lacking by comparison.
The whole 2950/2970 line of radios has harsh sounding receive audio that's hard to listen to for long periods; it was one of several reasons why I swore off Ranger radios back in the late 1990's.

The only thing you could do is have a good tech actually do a receive alignment. Even then the famous RCI "white noise" will still be there. For the last 5-10 years RCI quality has been on a downward slide. I wouldn't waste hard to find Toshiba finals on that radio.

Have it aligned correctly and run a west mountain radio clrdsp processor and problem fixed.

When I run the 2995dx the clrdsp is a must and all receive noise is resolved.

I guess I was mistaken about my old 2970N4 receiving better. The guy that bought from me had to take a trip this way for work and stopped by with it, they are both the same hash crap. Its only 38 miles. Anyway, I guess I am use to this more modern stuff that I have now. As far as the 2879's go I have some Toshibas (22 good used ones I save for repairs) and new HG's I can experiment with. Its got DEI in it now but the tune is just awful so I thought I might experiment, heck might even build something to replace the surface mount board stuff between the transformers. Anyhow, I will be keeping this rig. Looked for another for a long time, perhaps now it seems like a mistake but it puts down some good numbers, lol, 425-450. Will make a FUN rig when the conditions are good. Note I said fun and not good, lol. I will make the best out of my bad choice. Good advice on the west mountain DSP as well, thank you ALL for the suggestions.
