RCI 2995 dx

This might help or send you looking in the right place. Ranger has this posted in their "Tech Tips", but it says NO modulation any mode. Your radio might be on its way, or could be something altogether different.

July Tech Tip of the Month: No modulation in any mode with the RCI-29XX-DX Series? If you are having this problem with the RCI-2950DX, 2970DX or the 2995DX, then you probably have a "leaky" or shorted Q59. Here is how to find out. When trouble shooting no modulation problems, make sure Q43 is off during transmit, in other words - the voltage at Q43 should be 0Vdc during the transmit mode. The voltage at the collector of Q41 should be about 1.5Vdc during transmit. If this voltage is at 4.0Vdc or higher, check Q41 for collector-Emitter short. If Q41 checks good, then Q59 is "leaky" or shorted out. Replace it and all will be well again.

I had an issue with low modulation (about 40%) on AM only which was capacitor c260, replacement cured the problem.

If it is still under warranty send it back to Ranger. If it is not, and you are going to attempt a fix yourself, beware of the dual layer surface mount board... could be a disaster if you do not have the right tools or experience with this type of board.

Let us know what it turns out to be.
