Realistic Trc-456 reducing power output or variable dead key mod?

go up to one of the stickied threads about a more involved swing mod. it should work on your radio if you can find where to do the trace cut

Thank you for posting that SAMS. i tried searching for it but the search function on this forum is not so great.

so the diode you are looking for is D-506.

the AMC is VR8.

you'll want to peak the transmit before you do the mod so you will end up with the desired deadkey level without detuning any coils.

peak L901 for max deadkey. peak L903, and L905 for max PEP modulated wattage.

Don't touch F901.

Thanks for the time an effort to help me out! It sounds like this is what I need now to get this old radio doing what I want it to do! I appreciate your time and effort. If I am happy with the results, I am going to probably do a PLL mod to add some lower channels and maybe look at upgrading the mic inside the handset to something with some better punch (maybe an amplified D104 type electeret upgrade or similar).

I always liked the looks of these Telephone style radios, and would like to build this one out to perform as well as is reasonable to do. I know its never going to be like a fully worked Cobra 29, but I would like to make it at least respectable on the air. With a 100W kicker and some decent modulation I would be very happy.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes

Wes, it's better if you start a thread on the main forum, more people are going to see your question.
