Haven't got it yet but a friend is gonna drop off a TRC-492 AM/SSB Base. Anyone know anything about this radio? Any mods out there? Thanks

Mike,

Which PLL chip does this one have? If it is the one I'm thinking it is it might be unmodifiable, but I could be wrong.

IIRC, this radio has the Ch 19 and Ch 9 'quickie' buttons. PLLs in radios of this type are typically non-modifiable frequency wise.

I know you posted about a cb radio, but this might shed a little light on rat shacks philosophy.

It is from cb world informer

Radio Shack has a no-convert policy for their 10-Meter radios. The manufacturer had to sign a contract agreeing to pay a heavy penalty if the radio could be modified to 11-Meters. This seems to be an on going policy from the top-level executives.

Got the radio today. It's got the LC 7132 chip in it so it looks like there's no hope for this radio.
