Recieve amp?

TO make this quick, are recieve amps leagal under FCC regulations? Due to current solar conditions and my location i can call people but the signal i get in return is usualy to faint to understand. Does an recieve amp due the same as turning my RF gain nob to higher setting?

Yep, perfectly legal. Keep in mind that it will amplify the noise also. A pretty good solution for this that works well for me is to also use a DSP speaker like the ClearSpeech with the pre-amp. The DSP will kill quite a bit of noise, leaving you more voice pattern audio.
