Think all of the old stock radios with 1969 final transistor must be long gone by now. Nothing wrong with the MOSFET versions; but I prefer the 1969 versions as 9C1 does. So long as they sell them at a fair price and offer a reasonable warranty and they have been aligned properly, they work well enough to do the job.
I recently picked up another DX-88HL (with 1969's) at the local Hamfest last month with a D-104 handheld mic for $75. Guy said that it all worked fine, which wasn't true. You know the regular fixes: putting back the AM Limiter, USB didn't work, freq counter wasn't stable, and the power plug socket was broken - as well as a few other things too. After fixing all of these semi-serious problems and aligning it, it is now the radio I use in my shack.
But having these radios aligned is key for fine performance. Mine works xlnt on 10m; gets compliments all of the time and most people ask me if I am running an Icom or Yaesu. I laugh to myself and hold my tongue. But the whole point here is this: These Galaxy radios almost always need to be aligned to get it to RX and TX well, as well all of the other adjustments to make this radio worthwhile - IMO. Have yet to work on one that didn't and have worked on some new ones too . . .
