This keeps coming up and I never can remember exactly. Two questions.

What year did 40 channel radios hit the market? and

What year did the FCC deregulate CB?
 

In the UK it was 2006 when C.B was deregulated.

Not sure about the U.S though...

maybe you mean when the last CB license was issued.
They stopped licensing when the fcc got over a million applications a month.
I can read about anybody getting a CB license after 1979, but they could have actually stopped around 1980-1981.
Today from the official perspective, your authority to operate CB is from using an unmodified certified radio.
