Repair costs for VX-8r at Vertex?

Has anyone had to have Vertex replace their main board in their unit and if so how much did it cost.

They charge a $35 bench fee to assess what is wrong with your unit and give you an estimate. I don't need an estimate, as I know what's wrong.
I just want to know how much it will be without having to pay to find out.
If it is an arm and a leg, i'd rather just buy another unit and keep this one for parts.

Reason: Well we had some rain and storms here in SoCal for the first time since I purchased my unit and unfortunately it stopped working while i was out in the weather with water seeming to get down through the antenna connector area.

Any suggestions appreciated.

When I inquired they said that they charge $70/hr plus parts. Is your VX-8 no longer under warranty?

Apparently I am out of warranty. My suggestion to everyone who gets one is..

dunk your unit in water while still under warranty instead of finding out that there is a bad seal somewhere and it is actually not waterproof later.

Do you think I could ask them to just send it back to me with a new motherboard and i'll reassemble it. I think If i spoke to a technician/engineer they might say yes, but I mainly seem to only get to talk to the service reps and they have their canned responses to everything.

Try calling them up and asking for "parts department" instead of "customer service". I don't know if there is such a thing, but it's worth a try. Then you can just tell them the part you want and see if they can send it to you. Let us know how well that works :)

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
