Thanks Nomad .....I'll have to give the trimpot a try in the future. On this little Cobra 18 LTD there's no VR ,the radio really does have some decent clean audio at about 80% , clipped it went slightly over the 100% mark , Wow !! could I hear the differance !! To loud then !! I could hear the over modulation , I tried a 4.7 K 1/4 watt and it surely backed it off some , IM sure it's not perfect but it did clean it up around the edges.....louder yes ....but believe it or not ? That 80% had a very nice telephone quality audio ,just not that full loud type audio IM used to hearing. The other day I was talking to a few truckers around my area , I heard two guys having a conversation ,one guy was much louder then the other but the guy who wasn't very loud sounded telephone quality audio , he was clean as can be without the ear piercing loud audio ....this guy really sounded clean !!! I broke in and told the guy how clean and clear he sounded and what kind of radio he was talking on ? He said it was a little Uniden 520 and that he just had picked it up at Wallmart a few days prior and was talking off a Wilson 1000 magmount !!! He said the radio was simply out of the box and that the microphone was smaller then a pack of cigarettes !! (I know the radio he was talking about) He was thrilled to death that he sounded as good as I said he did !! ........one things for sure Mr Nomad ....one really just does not need to clip those diodes ! according to scopes /lose of power /and this guys ears !! .....I will admit that I am one for cap/resistor mods (I know what they look like on the scopes) but I do think those mods sound very good when using non-amplified NC mic's or decent stock mics , (powered mic's are usually just to much for those) and the extra drive they will put on a amplifier. I realize that it's not a picture perfect situation , but it does work. one of these days I will bring myself to a 2 swinging 8 at 100% modulation on that amp of my choice and see and hear if it will truly out do the cap/resistor mods ? (I know it will on the machines) but as I always say ...unfortunately ,I don't talk to machines ,I talk to people. Thanks again as always Nomad for your advise. Switch Kit
