I have several radios ranging from old and simple to more current and in between. I’ve noticed that rf gain just doesn’t seem to be rf gain across the board. It seems to me that there are two different methods that have been used. One is actually a rf gain control where the sensitivity is indeed adjusted through the knob in front of the radio. In these radios the S meter moves to the left as the gain is reduced. The other method there is some sort of injected voltage and the S meter moves to the right as the gain is reduced. My newer radios move to the right. The older to the left.
It’s my opinion that the left moving needle radios are more enjoyable to use. Seems like it’s better at helping tune some hash out without dropping the signal where the right moving needle just doesn’t do as well.
If any of that makes any sense. But what is y’all’s opinion or thoughts
