While I was doing my audio thing these past few months, I found a good YT repair site: Mend-it-Mark, from the UK. The vids allow viewers to watch his repair of assorted devices. He recently received a Copyright Strike for his repair video of a phono preamp that sells for £25k. What's more is that the builder sent the preamp in for Mark to repair!

When Mark removed the preamp from it’s fancy case, the insides were ....... interesting, for that price tag. In that regard, the Vid is priceless: Semiconductors sanded-down to obscure part numbers and board stacking apparently came apart. Mark fixed it anyway but the Copyright Strike for exposing circuit secrets seemed a bit insincere given the self-submission by builder, the selling price and build itself.

The HiFi community is far different than the Amateur Radio and even the CB free-bander community. Trying not to be critical here but check out the preamp repair video above, it has 36k Likes.

Original YT Vid on preamp restored apparently.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq5XJmk-lKk

Very good video, that guy is cheery. I thought I was cheating using a thermal camera, but if it's good across the pond, it's good for me. Thanks for sharing.

I saw that video when it came out. I think the "Copyright Strike" was due to manufacturer's (Tom Evans Audio Design) embarrassment that their marketing smoke and mirrors was exposed. Mark not so subtly said he couldn't understand why the price of that preamp was 25,000 GBP. Mark pointed out that manufacturer was using the Burr-Brown OP AMP circuit design (freely available from their component documentation). Nothing original or special to warrant the inflated price.

Mark's original video has been re-posted by other YouTubers. Here is one such repost. If you want to skip the intro, Mark's video starts at 1:19

There is a lot of hype in the high-end audio world that market to fools and their money. Here are a few for instance.

$195,500 Monoblock Amplifier
$944,000 pair of home speakers
$300,000 Turntable
$63,000 Preamp
$82,000 Speaker Cable

I'm sure Mark would find similar smoke screens in these products.

Sorry to hijack the thread :)

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
