Scary Anomaly

Were you just using the included telescoping antenna or did you try an external antenna?
No, I used the retired sigma Venom I had sitting in the shed. Good working antenna. The box was just junk. Did absolutely nothing.

Does anyone have an idea what frequency it samples noise at? Being it is supposed to cover the entire HF spectrum, it kind of make me wonder how it functions at all without an adjustment there.

I get the concept, receive noise off frequency, invert its phase, then apply it to the RX signal so the noise common to both is cancelled. But anyone with a channel dial knows that some of the noise we deal with is different between channels, sometimes non-existent on certain channels, and surely not consistent across the entirety of the HF bands.

Some radios use noise at 23MHz and use those noise peaks to briefly blank the 27MHz receiver chain, and although this device works differently, it still needs to sample off frequency so it is not inverting and adding the desired signal. There is no way for this device to know what frequency you are receiving, so how can it possibly cover all of the HF spectrum?

I would like to see a device like this that allows the user to select the sampling frequency so that similar noise can be inverted and applied, not completely different noise from 15MHz away.

Edit: It sure would be cool if every HF band had an absolute quiet channel just to help devices like this function properly. If you sample from a frequency that is in use, the inverted audio from that frequency would come through as it is not present in the desired signal and therefore is not cancelled.

Yeah, but the notice I got said IF the unit was unused... if not, my card will be recharged for the item.
The notice from Amazon or was it a card inside the package or a message from the seller? Amazon offers free 30 day return or replacement, and the "notice" isn't posted on the listing, so it doesn't apply. If the seller told you that, sounds like they are scaring you into keeping their crap. Return it as defective, then when the new, "unused" unit arrives, start a return for refund.

It was in the email I received when I completed the return process. I got the confirmation and it said the refund will show up within 24 hours following the drop off time. IF the item is received and determined that it is not in unused condition, my credit card may be re-charged for the unit. My response to that was I had to open it, strip the wires for power and connects the coax to try it out. Of course it won't be pristine and untouched.

Then return it as defective if you are afraid of that possibility, as it appears to be defective to you so your conscience is clean. Then return the new unit, unused, for another reason. There is always a way out with Amazon. Believe me.

Edit, if you already have a return started, you can cancel that or talk to Amazon through the chat to get it cancelled. If you are a prime member, they usually go above and beyond to satisfy the members over the sellers.

That thing was back in the box and dropped off at the UPS store two hours after it arrived at my house. Had it done SOMETHING, I would have played with it and tried various antenna for reference. But, it did nothing. While going through the return sequence, I told them it didn't work.

I was going to say this during my rant, but at the risk of sounding like a shady character refrained. Glad someone else said it.
I used to think this way. But since doing business with these people who sell $10.00 junk for 60+ bux, I become a bit insensitive to their feelings. I found another one. Same thing, switch is different. Only 25 bux. I MAY try it, thinking possibly the last one was defective.
