A little setup for my shed. Just going to use it to talk to locals while messing around out there. Uniden 510 Pro XL. RadioShack 3amp supply. I hooked it up in the house to make sure the 3amp supply a friend let me borrow would work ok. Works great hooked to my antron 99 SWR 1.2. All I have for a antenna in the shed is a LIL Wil or a K30 mag mount on the metal roof. I hope it works ok. This little radio dead keys at 4 watts and swings about 12 according to my meter anyway. I don't know if its ever been worked on. Do you guys think one of these mag mounts will work ok for local talking?

It should work all right. I'm sure the mass of the metal that is the shed will provide an adequate counterpoise. At that power level there really isn't much to worry about.

12V x 3A = 36 Watts
should work ok, I've run a k40 on an AC unit and it worked as well as in the car. lots of static when the AC kicked on though.
as with any cb setup, height is a good thing, if you can switch to a longer antenna you'll notice a difference.

36 watts x 50% efficiency = 18 watts, give or take a very little bit. Don't even think about running a 20 ampere appliance from a 3 ampere source.

How much will the 3Amp supply run? I know not much but what is its limit? Would it run my Galaxy DX959? Swings around 20 watts.

If I remember correctly, the Galaxy 959 comes with a 3 amp fuse in the power cable. Fuses are usually spec'd at least 50% over the average amperage draw to allow ample headroom but still be able to react and pop for current spikes. I doubt the 959 draws much more than 1 amp.

A 3 amp power supply should work fine. The power supply should have overload protection usually with a switchable circuit breaker just in case.

Obviously, if you keep tripping the power supply, then it is insufficient for this radio and you need a higher amperage one.

Here it is in my shed hooked to the lil wil. SWR is 1.6 across the band. I've moved it around but only gets higher seems like. I guess what do I expect just to throw a mag mount on the roof. Works awesome for local. Can hear skip but of course probably not getting out unless conditions are perfect. Its all I need in the shed.

So you guys don't laugh at this, but my brother inlaw wanted a radio to use while he was out of work but he had no money. We went to goodwill and found this cobra 7 plus for 5.00. i tuned it up a little got pretty good results 18 or 20 swing. then i got him the power supply 2 amp for 5.00 wire tied it to the top off the radio.I bought him some coax, cheap radio shack and a 102" SS whip. we put it on top of the condo where he lived with a HOA, no one has noticed it, about 2 years now. He made hundreds of local and skip contacts , so it doesn't take much.

I think its awesome. I like trying to talk all over with less. Most think they gotta have big watts.
