Well I ordered my new 2950DX and considered the following four places based on input from forum members: CBR, FG BEST, Bob's CB, and 8541Electronics.

CBR and FG Best do not stock those radios. CBR would order. FG Best would not. That took them out of the running.

Bob's CB and 8541 both had the radios in stock. It seemed 8541 was much higher in price until tuning and 11 meter conversion was factored in.

The 8541 price included the 11 meter conversion, alignment, and tune. Bob's CB charged extra for both. The end difference WITH shipping was 8541 was $6 more. Bob's is in PA. 8541 in NC. 8541 is closer for shipping too.

The guy I talked to at Bob's didn't know squat about 2950s. and even tried to sell me a new magnum instead. Now I am sure there are good techs there - just reporting my experience.

I talked to Richard aka Sharpshooter

(the son and owner) @ 8541 for about 20 minutes. He know's that radio and his business like the back of his hand.

Well I ponied up the extra $6 and that radio shipped out to me the very next day. I should get it early next week. I'll write a report in sound off once I try out my new RCI 2950 DX.

very good ssb rig for what you pay, did you have any other mods done other than 11 meter?

LazyBones,

Richard is a very good guy to deal with. I am sure you will be happy.

Mac - I just asked for the peaking of the modulation, the 11 meter conversion and realignment of the receiver.

He questioned me alot on how the radio was going to be used. I told him as a base into the Varmint, and that I wanted it tuned very clean to minimize RFI.

He has the skills and the equipment. I'm sure that is exactly what I will get.
