been playing with mics all day,,sedelta echo master,3 diff d104,s and a cobra dynamic low compresion desk mic..my locals hate the night eagle on lsb but everyone loves it and get great reports from far away, so its time to make if comfy for where i sit and the way id like it to be..
dont care about how you may not like the d104 and how its stupid to shorten it..im doing it for me to fit my needs..
i took apart a older d104 with the side bar only and it would be a much bigger job shortening it,so the night eagle is my main mic and its much easyer to mod the mics with the side and bottom ptt bars ,very easy actually..
so 2 and a 1/2 inches is coming off..heres a couple pics for now..till tomorrow when i have time to do more.
poor night eagle:eek:

everything is shortened and tapping the ptt bar tonight..everything went real well and super easy..
heres the shortened parts..notice there is 2 round spacers in the tube to guide the white plastic rod that keys the mic..they have offset holes and dont look like i will be using the one that was on the bottom as of now but will no soon enough..
wrapped everything in tape and didnt get any scratches;)

im really glad i did this ,much more comfy grabing it and holding it while in the easy chair..
on the plastic push to talk rod dont worry if you hapen to cut it too short,as theres a small hole in the hollow plastic tube and you can add a screw for a fully adjustable ptt rod..
i did this since i thought i was a lil short, but ended up after installing it i was dead on.and removed the screw i added.
if anyone does this the rod measures exactly 1 and 1/2 inches form the plastic rod to the bottom base with a straight edge.before and after.
works just like before and feels better in my hand..wish i had went the full 3 inches now but 2 1/2 will be fine..
i also glued the plastic ptt rod guide insert in the bottom of the base and worked out great..
ive spent days trying to get the perfect sound from the sadelta and the night eagle on am and ssb and heres the best results i get from other "hams"wanting that crystal clear smooth bassy sound..
the top 1 inch ring from a cotton sock folded over to make 8 thick and 1 1/2 deep in the sadelta lol.
and the d104 everyone likes but said i sound a lil tinny..so after 6 strips of terry cloth cotton socks they seem to say it sounds 100 percent better..free tone control is the way to go,till i can afford to try an astatic 575 that seem to be the price of gold nowadays..
