That was one of the first radios i got to play with when starting out in CB/SSB. A good friend of mine had one and he'd let me use it from time to time and i loved it. Got out bid on Ebay about a month ago for one. A 99 for it, i'd say HELL YES!!! "Hawk"

I never had one, but always heard about the "DRIFT" problem! BUT this guy swears up and down that it dont, so for all that stuff, i think the 99 is worth a try! Do they have good Audio on AM? And do they sound like a Yaesu 101E on SSB! If so, im going to get it!

Man that was a LONG time ago and we only talked SSB. Pop the top and check out the inside to see if it's clean and no burnt marks anywhere and go from there. I'm jealous of you! "Hawk"

I really want to know if it sounds good on SSB and AM! If it sounds better or like a Yaesu 101E, then i will snag it! If it dont sound as good, i will not mess with it!

Ask the guy if you can use it for a couple of days and see what you think and what others you talk to on it say what they think! "Hawk"

I got it all today! Radio is in good shape from what i can tell! The LA-550 needs a 8950 tube, but im not worried about that! Also, when i but it on freq like 27.595, i have to turn the VFO on the radio to 27.593 to hear and transmit on that channel! All i need now is a Top notch tech to look it over and get it all lined out! If yall have anybody who is Excelent, let me know! thanks! Other then that, it has a Turner plus three mic on it and everybody says it sounds great! I think we are going to put a non powered D-104 on it and let it shine! What you think?

Glad you like it. I told you i wouldn't stear you wrong. I was gonna suggest the D-104 to ya because thats what my friend had on his. Hope to HEAR from ya Friday after 5pm on the contest channels. Thats the only time i have to play with my radios cause Sat. and Sun. nights it's back to work. "Hawk"

OK, I'm a virgin to this site. I just joined today. I haven't been on 11 meters in a long time. I decided to come back and play, now I have my new (sort of ) radio being shipped today. A pristine 1011D with all the toys and a D-104. Plan to hook it up to a PDL-2 just like the old days. That combo is hard to beat with just a modest amount of heat added. 1011's may have some drift but it goes away once it's warm. They are killer on AM and a great SSB rig. Next best thing to a 101, no question.

I hope you enjoy that rig, they do drift really bad, but hen they warm up to a certain point thay will have your ears full of modulation on SSB, now on AM it was not THE LOUDEST out there, but good enough to be called a big strapper, good luck, and take care.
