Small HF amp

I am on 16 LSB several times a week, as well as 36-40 with the DDS. These 23 channel Cybernets were great radios, I don't care what some people think or say.
In the photo, you can see the DDS is on 23.710. That injection freq is putting the radio on CH 38.

for whatever reason, the modulation from the Midland 40 channel Cybernet radio struggles so hard... I recapped the whole radio and that did nothing for it lol. You have to yell into the mic for it to do anything. 1st radio I am gonna sell off once I get around to it lol.
What model? I believe the 13-892 is identical to the Hy-Gain 674B

Midland 79-892... Funny you mention the 13-892. I still have that beauty coming up on 15+ years now. Found that bad boy in Manhattan Kansas at a thrift store for a whopping $10. :)

I have a 79-892 I used on 10m back in the day. It became a parts donor. I just picked it up and looked at it to see what it needs to operate again. Might not happen...I loved that radio in my car. No amp, Larsen mag mount and I could work JA's from the East Coast, during the cycle peak in the early 90's. Tons of fun.

I will let you know once I get around to unloading that radio... :) I better sleep. Christmas comes soon lol! Good night! 73!

Sorry TM86 if you got blown up with notifications lol. :)

No worries, guys. You reminded me that I have a 79-892 here that was converted to 10 meters, and I don't remember if I unconverted it or not.

First SSB radio I had, bought it new "peaked and freaked", at least that's what was written on the box. Talked all over the world with it back in 79 with a Radio Shack 1/2 wave omni, stock.
My late father in law talked me into SSB, and then it began.

I robbed the final and heatsink, VCO, audio amp chip and crystal filter. I believe it has a bad mixer IC also. I know I stashed the heatsink somewhere and the crystal filter did nt get used and I know where it is. I'd have to come up with a VCO and audio amp chip and bottom cover. Probably not gonna happen.

VCO is easy enough. Audio amp chip is doable. Mixer IC is readily available. Final and heatsink could probably be robbed from another PLL02A chassis. Bottom cover, now that may be a challenge.

Maybe next year I can bring back more of my radios from storage including that 23 channel Midland SSB. :) Someone at the time did etch into the chrome above the radio with their callsign, and I always leave stuff like that left on any radios I get. Unique history to each one.

Winter time, is when the clunkers come out. We have random clunker nights on 16 LSB in my area. Preferably 23 channel SSB radios, but some 40 CH's come on. The activity has dwindled dramatically since Covid lockdown resolved, but a few come around.

In the past 2 months, I have dragged out the Hy-Gain V, Courier Spartan and Cobra 132A. Coming up (after repairs) Midland 13-893, Cobra 135, Regency Imperial, SBE Console II and hopefully a Palomar Digicom 100.

We also have some clunker nights on CH 12 AM. Typically, tube sets, like my Laffalot Comstat's.

I checked into a net yesterday... It was on 16 LSB. The gentlemen said they do it every Thursday at 7PM Central. Mother Nature ran into the night so was able to check on in.
