So most people are in a rush to install cheap, powerful, questionable mosfets in place of older bipolar transistors as finals. Me being the constant rebel am thinking about going the other direction. I generally take a dim view of non-rf specific mosfets being installed in CB and Export radio's operated bellow 48V's. Why? Durability, gain at low voltages, imd, and the fact that they tend to produce low carrier wattage and than grossly exceed the 4:1 rule no matter what you do.
I tend to think the rf knob on my radio's should not be a fashion statement but should actually work. Most mosfet radio's the rf power control seems to only control carrier once you modulate the rf power seems to swing to what ever the max that chassis can safely support. It does not matter if the carrier is 2 watts or 15 watts the second you talk you into the make your swinging to 60+ watts. That is unacceptable in my book a dual final radio should not behave like that.
Seems like the only way around this is to replace the driver and final to make them behave like they used to before the cheap mosfet invasion.
P.S. RFPARTS got my parts to me so fast. In less than 24hrs I had my matched par 2SC1969's and my MP 2SC2166's. You gota love it when parts get to your door that quickly! With Mouser even when everything is in stock it is normaly 3-4 weeks before my parts arrive!
