So what's the real deal with static discharge? . I'm thinking of buying a pres jackson2 but the reports are that the finals blow for sport. I would mostly use it on an antron 99 but a comment I read somewhere implies the closely related imax 2000 generates a lot of static. But I understood they were dc grounded which I think means they have a direct short between the center coax and the braid. I tried to repair a sirio mobile antenna once that had a short purposefully in it and one would think that it would be one of the safest antennas to buy mobile cause they would discharge into the body of the car.
And are there easy mods that can be done to a radio to protect them?.

If antenna is DC grounded just ground the antenna.
In GP antennas best way is to put 100KOhm 4W resistor between radiating element ad radials.

All I know is that I have been running a Super Big Stick (same type of antenna as yours) continously for over 30 years with no static related problems. I mount em and forget em. PS: Fla is the lightning capitol of the world. I unhook the coax in big storms only. Never lost a radio. I did see(FEEL) a lightning strike to a FG marine antenna about 100 feet from me, and it wasnt pretty. Fiberglass everywhere!!!

I will not be there but hopefully by the end of this month I will have my New tower and antennas back in the air including my M2 6M5X. The old tower and all of my antennas came down in October 2023 during a Hurricane.
