superstar 3900 frequencey counter

im thinking of purchasing one of these counters for a ss3900, what i would like to know is will it display a constant readoud in ssb or only when you whistle etc.

i have a early model ss 3900-g it don,t have the freq, counter plug in the rear, is it possible to wire one of these counters, to this radio, and have it readout on recieve & transmit with stability?

so would i be correct in thinking that it is just a glorified channel readout?, stable on usb/lsb, not like a zetagi frequencey counter where you get a frequencey readout on usb/lsb when you give it a constant tone?..............and this unit can be connected to numerous radio's???????????
