I found this radio for like $230 USD from kamsatcb over in from UK.

It's supposedly made in Malaysia by Ranger.

Supposedly it's the export version which I think means 6 bands including the US. Also the clarifier is unlocked on TX using the coarse control for +/-7 and RX is on the fine for +/-1.

I noticed this model says Tone where the older ones said Band.. and the actual bank select switch for A-F says dimmer under it..

I did read that in Export mode the Dimmer works as band select.

So with that in mind, would the tone switch go back to being a band hi-low switch??

Opinions?? Anyone have one??

Still have one of these radios somewhere in a box in a galaxy far away . . .

The CH 9 switch is the one normally used for band switching - IIRC, and the TONE switch was used for 5khz drop.
Maybe the other way 'round. Have not looked at it in quite awhile.

Looks like yours is from cobraworx - or some biz name to that effect . . .

Didn't buy it yet. Kamsatcb on eB has them for sale.. I was considering it. Reminds me of the older Cobra 148 but with extra channels already in it..

But for $230 USD this thing should have decent receive on it.. the FM and CW seem like a novelty. Especially the CW mode..

I can only find a handful of videos on this model, but not this exact type..

It may look like a 148; but inside is a 3600-14"x" type of chassis, similar to the Superstar 360FM (same radio as the Cobra 148 GTL/DX export radio) and any Galaxy 77, 88, or 99 or even some DX AM only/based productions. These radios were some of the first to employ that type of board - IIRC . . .

So that's a bad thing??

Well, using an export radio on the CB band will work. But it also lets harmonics out into the airways, since the passband filter is not tuned for CB but the 10m Ham band. If you put an amp behind this radio, then you will throw off all of those harmonics amplified. SO w/o an amp - meh. With an amp - NOT a good idea.

If what you're seeking is a stable SSB radio, this is not the best choice. It's used mostly for its AM mode by truck drivers here in the states. Numerous brands and models containing this circuit-board family are famous for frequency drift.

And if AM is your primary interest, it's okay, but the price sounds a bit high. Frequency stability is plenty good enough for AM or FM.

I have the US version - EPT 360011Z board.

Nothing special just a Galaxy in a different wrapper.

Not much info on the 11Z boards - but there's is enough to extrapolate from other boards, what is needed to have done.

The photo above is on the foil side, BETWEEN the Audio Amp chip and the Power Regulator. Look for this on your board.

Heck for any Amateur would be an easy radio to fix and own...it just doesn't have a lot of channels in the 10 meter band.

You have to be aware that with a board like this, mods are applied - at least the one I had was from a previous owner that just wanted to trade up to the HR2510 - and needed $$$ to do it.

Has open spots that like the one I have, which are installed with parts for asymmetry mods - so this requires BIPOLAR like the 1969 or 2312.

If you decide to use the MOSFET - then you are on your own.

This is a radio chassis designed more for "pirate radio" than to be a Amateur - Band Transceiver. So anyone whom owns such a radio - all responsibility and liability lays on them and their use of said device.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
