That comparison is a little misleading actually. A typhoon classified as a Super Typhoon is indeed equal to a strong cat 4 hurricane but only just barely on the low end. IOW a strong cat 4 is barely a Super Typhoon. A cat 4 is 130–156 mph, 209–251 km/h while a cat 5 is >157 mph, >252 km/h. Looking at the weather chart above shows Super typhoon Ruby is packing winds of 270 km/h, or 168 mph and gusting to 320 km/h, 199 mph.
