are you suppose to check swr with amp on or off on a basestation? i have a galaxy 99 texas star350 and a dosy 4001 on a imaxx 2000 when i check my swrs with the box off they are low when i turn the box on low they stay low. but when i turn the box on high they jump up to 2 swr can anyone help?

You should be able to set the SWR with a barefoot radio and be done. If you add an amplifier your SWR should not change. If it does your amp has an impedance mis-match. Texas Star and palomar amps tend to do that when run wide open. Just run it on a lower power setting. That or you will have to send the amp in to be fixed for a 50 ohm load wide open.

The output impedance of an amplifier continiously changes with drive and output level changes.
As the frequency is moved, the match also changes.
As the antenna match changes with frequency, the amp output impedance see this change.
They all inter-act.
Once you set up at one frequency, the overall match will only hold over a small range, technically.
A match of 2 to 1 is usually the normally accepted limit before retuning is done.

scorpion1980 I emailed the tech at bellscb and he emailed back,
only check swr with the radio, (AMP OFF) most amps cause harmonics and thats why the high swr shows.
Ive been running my radio, with an swr of 1.2:1, amp OFF
swr of 2.5:1, amp ON
it still dk's 120 and pep @480 , so far so good, thats what a 500v should do,
and so far no complaints from people i talk to on it

Most well-designed and LEGAL amplifiers don't.

Typical for a Texas Star, Palomar, and all Palomar clones. 2-1 swr won't hurt a Texas Star.
