Test equipment setup for beginners?

I have been looking for different adjustments and such beyond "hook up meter and turn VR# and get 50W output" type things. I want to find directions on how to hook up a signal gen to calibrate squelch, S-meter, etc. Is there a FAQ or sticky that shows how to connect the equipment? Reading some sites you use a test point on the board, some you go in thru the antenna.. Some mention a step attenuator, others do not.

Is there a budget priced manual with equipment setups for each test?
For example I have a signal generator, o-scope, DVOM, freq counter. I just want to do basic calibrations, like I just replace the meter in my DX88HL and now a S-9 on my DX939 is barely over S-1 on the DX88HL.

I was looking thru the stickies here, and it seems many of the links do not work?

I tried this one, "not found":
