Texas star dx667v turbo mod

The amplifier in question with this tread is the Texas Star DX667V and that uses a 2SC2290 driver transistor. It is this part that determines the amplifier drive requirements. Not the 2SC2879 finals. The Cobra 148GTL is a more appropriate radio to drive this amp then anything that produces 45 watts PEP.
the one i have has the 2sc2879 in it ....dont know if it came that way but they are in it ........
 
Does anyone know which potentiometer the old
Texas Star do 667v turbo mod used?
I understand some use a 100 ohm and some used a 250.
Any help would be appreciated

Yes i know MANY years late however mine uses 100 ohm 5 watt potentiometer.
 
Take 100 people with any 667 made, and each person will have different readings under the conditions and equipment they are using. If a 12 volt transistor is driven with a higher voltage, and then over driven, the peaks on the scope will not increase. They will clip causing that pinched and clipped sound we often hear. I dunno but Rms is a better way than peak envelope power. If you run by PEP then thats whybthere are so many opinions.

The 667 used a single 2290 to drive 4 2879 transistors.
Later models used two mosfets in place of the 2290.
If your amp has a 2879 as a driver it has been modified.
We have to remember that these were " designed" for older radios that struggled to reach 3.5-4 watts output with 12-16 watt peaks.
This was the reason for a driver transistor back then.
When class c competition amps showed up on the scene the rules changed somewhat.
