The questions of the year isn't it?

Many of you have already helped me get this far but as usual I have more questions.

I need the "perfect antenna" for dx. I currently have a 40 ft tower braced to the side of the house to use. Currently I have an imax which makes a decent trip but I'd like to be able to focus a bit better to make those trips.

I have been called cheap in the past so I dont want to spend a LOT of money, but do want to get one that is decent quality and will last for a while.

Sideband obviously will be where I am going to be using the most as the IMAX will become the "local" antenna. For power I hope to keep it under 100w and at most it will be 500w so power handling should now be much of an issue.

Input?ideas?fav antennas?ones you wish you had?things you do have?

help out a newbie!

thanks all...Jeff

I could never part with my Interceptor 10K. Not only does it hear better, and get out better, and bleed the neighbors less than any antenna I've ever had; it also looks GOOD up there on top of my house. Sometimes I just get a beer, sit in the back yard, and stare at it. Well, maybe more than one beer.

Seems to me that the perfect antenna is always the one you're looking at next in the magazine....

Mole',

There are two 'perfect' antennas. The one you used before the last one, and the next one. Varies with the time span between one before last and now...

now what happens if I take the old one, add it to the current one and make that the next one?hmmmmm

does that make 2 perfect antennas or one?

I agree, there is no perfect antenna, I used ot use an IMAX for local DX, meaning local stateside, and an I-10K for "real" DX... the reasons... the Imax had a higher takeoff angle, and the I-10K didn't. (which is good) I have never been a fan of the A99 or Imax antennas though. I am however a believer in the I-10K antenna.
