can you buy them and where?... Need one for Magnum S380 believe it's a 120 for L5 adjustment,... top adjusting part would not turn ended up breaking... Thank you!!!

If the part is actually marked as "L5" on the circuit board, then it's not a 'trim pot,' it's a variable inductor. (L is the symbol for inductance.) 'Pot' is short for 'potentiometer' which implies a variable resistor (a particular kind of variable resistor, with 3 terminals). Not the same thing.

In any case, I would suggest DigiKey:

Electronic Components Distributor | DigiKey Corp. | US Home Page

Or Mouser electronics:

Mouser Electronics - Electronic Component Distributor

You need to figure out what the inductor value is (in microhenrys (uH)) to get a replacement.

The ferrite slugs in variable inductors are prone to cracking if you use a metal tool to turn them. That's why a plastic adjustment tool is recommended instead.

You can get these coils directly from "The Radio Shop" in Ontario CA. They are an authorized warranty repair station for Magnum radios.

Did you use a metal screwdriver when the coil slug broke? Hope not. Not supposed to use any metal tools when adjusting these coils; only nylon tools are specified. Using metal tools to adjust these coils is the #1 cause of breaking these core slugs.

Better still; think you are better off to ship the radio to either Bob's CB Shop or The Radio Shop - whichever is closer to you. I think that Bob's CB is still an authorized Magnum repair station as well.

Just $.02 . . .

You are not supposed to use a cordless screwdriver either.

Thank you for all the info,... the ferrite slug would not turn for what ever reason, started with a nylon, broke it with the metal, took a apart variable inductor and replaced the ferrite slug and nylon threads seems to be good..

Again, thank you and Happy Holidays to all!!
