top load anttenas?

On an antenna like a skip shooter or a Wilson Silver load do they really receive and transmite from the tip of the antenna or is this just a lot of B.S.?I have been told this by many cb shop's and always wondered if there anything to be gained by using them.

Yes they radiate from the coil area, they have a good application with big rigs for getting over top the cab. I've always had the best reports with the center loaded antennas but thats on my cargo van.

Actually, the entire antenna radiates. The top loaded coil moves the current UP the antenna and radiates the majority of the signal there.

Main problem however with a top-load antenna is, If you hit a low-hanging tree limb, your coil is going to be takeing a beating! Where with a center load antenna, it will just be the stinger...(they will bend without damageing anything...Loads wont!)
