I got this mic in with the 66XL (not sure if it goes with it) but when I key it up its giving me grief. Like not as much audio or swing as my cheap Workman CM4. Tested audio volume and such on another rig in same room.

Wiring seems ok and guts look ok.

What am I missing and how can I test it?

I do have test meter here for ohms and such.

when touch both terminals on element I get .287 k ohms

Could this be a high impedance mic??
The CM4 is like 500-600

Element is shot.

The reading, if I think you have what I think you have in as a "test meter" and their ohmic scales...

They can read ohmic direct up to 200 ohms, above that, they throw in a decimal point and shows up as if you're reading a decimal number.

So if you have a 180 ohm resistor - it would read 180 (or thereabouts per tolerance) direct. No decimal point shows up telling you your scale setting is correct.

A 600 ohm element would read as .600 (or thereabouts) but with a decimal if you use the 200 ohm setting - in the 2K setting - it'll show as 600. as you read earlier. Note the Decimal is now on the right.

Either way...
These Uniden elements are supposed to show 500-600 ohms, (.600 in direct, or 600. in 2K) you're way below that - more than likely it's a blown element.

In the cradle of the handset - that looks too large to be a simple Electret style that they used to have for the 520e (not the PRO models) and such.

It would show 1500. on 2K scale - if you had a ELECTRET condenser (radio powered) element and it would need a trickle power from the mic plug to power that mic.

Kinda sucks. I like having a 'factory' mic

I see the MK353 "dynamic" says 76XL, PRO710, and PRO538E. Wonder if that's a normal 500-600 type??

I also see someone has NOS PC77 mics for $25

I see the BC645 mic but that clearly says electret type for the new 505-520 etc.
