Uniden Washington feedback issue

I have a Uniden Washington. I’ve had it for 15 years never had a problem with it. A month ago I started experiencing feedback and squealing when I key it up. Randomly mind you, but I don’t get it. I’ve been running a silver eagle on it from day one. I’m certain the radio doesn’t have talk back in it although running a power mic on it gives a hint of talk back. It will even feedback with the stock mic on it. Does anyone have any thoughts?

First blush response is to say that the electrolytic caps are too old and have begun to dry out.
Prolly needs recapping, since it is over 30 years old - JMHO.

It does this with the stock hand mike, so we can't blame the D-104.

Three things come to mind.

The headphone jack.

Mike jack.

External speaker jack.

Each of these has a ceramic-disc capacitor from the speaker's ground-side circuit to the metal chassis.

Taking the mount nut loose from each and pulling it clear of the mounting hole one at a time will break this accidental talkback circuit if that socket is where the problem lies.

If you transmit with that jack hanging loose by the wires and the talkback goes away, that narrows down where to look next.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
