Valve amp powering for mobile

Not sure if anyone has done this. Is it possible to power a big valve amp from a big power converter, 12Vdc to 240 V ac ? Obviously for mobile Use. Battery bank an all if necessary.



Not sure if the quality/purity of the 240v sine is suitable or not ? I am giving due consideration to the mechanical shock mounting of the unit if this is possible.

Nope, you cannot run the whole amplifier off of a DC to AC power converter (typically called an "Inverter") because, the Inverter works at an audio frequency, the DC voltage has a "whine" associated with it



You can light the tubes and run auxilliary voltage supplies (bias and screen) but you cannot use it for high voltage.



To generate B+ (High voltage for plate supply) you should use a 3 phase transformer (13.6 volts in / 2000 volts out). Peter W. Dahl Co. in El Paso, Texas makes these transformers

Thanks paws, i i wasnt sure on what ripple frequencies would be present to cause problems.
