variable power on 2510?

I bought this well prepped 2510 from nightrider781, and it was done up by DOC, it has the chipswitch, and the 497 final and a fan, but where is the variable power?

I think it mightbe the swr/cal knob?

sometimes that seems to turn it down, but a loud voice or whistle really swings it even with it turned almost all teh way down?

Actually, Yes.

If the mod was done properly, It will modulate more with the power turned down.

the best way to check if it was done with the SWR CAL knob, would be to put it on a Watt meter, and in AM and press the TX button and vary the knob.

OR you could put it on SSB and inject a steady tone and do the same.

My Doc's tuned HR2600 has the variable power on the SWR/CAL knob. Awesome radio!

On the Display......First Is the ChipSwitch Mounted in a socket, or is it soldered in the Microprocessor Board?

If it is in a socket, very carefully push down on the Chip to make sure it is firmly seated in the socket, Fire up the radio and see if the display is normal, it may not be seated well and not making good contact. If it still is not working correctly, pull the Chip, and reinstall it, be careful and make sure all the pins are in the slots, you do not want to fold any of them over because they are not lined up properly when you re seat it. If you still have problems, look at the solder connections on the bottom of the Microprocessor board, very closly inspect pins # 1 thru # 5, these pins are the ones that drive the display, they should have nice even solder flow around each pin, with no rosin leftovers. Also Check that all of the cables that Plug into the processor board are tight, you can pull them, one by one and reseat them to make sure that they make good contact. See if any of these suggestion's cures the problem. Then let us know
