Looking for information how to add a variable control for talk back in a general lee , thanks for the help

I would try changing the value of R197 and see where that gets you. It's a 10k ohm resistor hanging out by R244 and TR39.
If that's the one then you can just wire in a variable, or just change the value to something more suitable.
