ok for those that live in FLORIDA know how soggy the grounds get here i dug a 4-foot hole to put a 4x4 so I can use it to mount my verticle sirio gps-27 the more i dug the more the wet the dirt gets would that be any kind of problem.
You have it backwards. Moist, damp ground is better than dry ground by far. Think about it, you are looking to conduct energy into the ground. Do you want swampland or a desert? Think about touching high voltage with a stick. Do you want that stick to be dry or wet?
Seems to me a wetter softer ground should make driving an 8ft ground rod much easier. I live in the desert SW and driving 3 ground rods was a chore.
1 ground rod is only a minimum, you should use 3 spread out around the base of your antenna and bond them together.
Because you live in the lightning capital of the country, I would consider a polyphaser arrestor attached to a ground rod which breaks the coax connection outside and bonds the coax shield with a short path to the ground rod.
This is what I use for all my antennas. It's a ground rod clamp with holes for mounting the bulkhead style polyphasers. DX engineering sells these.
