VX-8r Mars Cap Mod

I've been reading about the MarsCap Mod for my new VX-8R, and would like to know just what the new freq range would be AFTER the Mod? It seems so easy to do, are there any "side effects" to doing it? Help?

MARS/CAP

Has anyone figured out the software mod (ie not cutting the resistor) for the US version? All of my other Yaesu HT's have such a mod......
