What truck to stay away from?

Well it is time for Skip to get a new vehicle. Looking for feedback on any truck that has known excessive noise problems or doesn’t respond well to lots of RF.

Right now I have a 2001 Dodge RAM, but it is a gas hog. I use all bands available and an 8-pill on HF. Plan on transferring my 300-amp (claimed) standalone alternator system for the amplifiers.

Any suggestions, I have Escalade taste on a 20-year-old Datsun budget? Short bed PU with crew cab?

Thanks,

Skip

I like the dodge rams from 94-97, Fords from 73-79 and 92-96. But you can't argue Chevy makes most economical sense. Alts are cheaper and everyone makes mounts to get alt's on a chevy.

Hey RR.....then a 94 Ford Explorer XLT?? (1/2 ton) is a pretty good radio/ amp setup.......I've been looking at a nice one, well maintained, but 145k!!........road miles I'm told, and the truck reflects the care.....$3500......

How tough is it to add a couple alts.......I haven't seen anything but 350 chevys with extra alts......

......carry on ya'll..........Ol'Ben

Explorer could work. There's guys putting dual alt's on Rangers so the explorer should be similar.

Should be the same as a Ranger. They share many common parts.

Ben dont know if you care or not, but have repaired a few explorers that had some serious rocker rot (rust) becuase of the mouldings that ford put on down lower. Might be worth looking @ if yours has the moulding. They Rust from the inside out, for made holes in the side of the rocker to attach it, then didnt make anything at the bottom to let moisture out. Big Mistake.

Just something to check.

Hey Skip! I'd stay with a Dodge so all your stuff fits easier! I do prefer Chevys but the noise thing prob depends more on the radio and setup than the vehicle.

PS....Maybe that 2001 Ram is a gas hog 'cause it's running that locomotive alternator!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek">

You know...... It has that Dodge computer in it that tells you your mileage, and after I put the alternator on it the average mileage dropped by .5 MPG. I took it out 2 weeks ago to get ready to get rid of it and no change in mileage on the computer. All of that RF may have messed it up any way.

I'm partial to GM myself, looking towards that way.
