WHATS YOUR CHOICE FOR SSB UNIDEN PRESIDENTIAL BASE?

Made in Japan? Made in Philippians? Which model do you prefer and why? Which president has the easiestly moded for extra channels? Which one have the nicest ssb operation? Please tell me why the uniden you choose is the best in your opinion. Can you list the +'s and -'s of each uniden presidential 40 channel base station. Going through some old posts I noticed many WWDX members have great knowledge of these cb's and have or still owned and operated these classics. The internet research I've done on these radios is very confusing. I hope someone can narrow it down to the most basics of why one uniden is better than another. This is another ssb am cb that just wasn't popular in my area back in the day yet my research on these transcivers has impressed me. It's just the fact there are so many versions of each one.

Years ago I had a President Madison (second generation). I thought it was very nice SSB rig and kept it until I was licensed and moved to 2 and 6 meter SSB.

Thanks to all who have helped me make an educated choice. I will do a bit more research but I'm leaning towards the Madison. Thank u 6meter for that site, it was A big help. I saved it to my bookmarks. Now the trick is to find one in near to mint condition. I'm not gonna settle for a basket case. I've seen some very nice Washingtons on eBay. Not cheap but Concidering a few were nos, I will wait for the right one to come along. I've lived on am for the life of my cb history. A few months without a ssb transciver wont kill me but I must say I'm looking foward to finding the right one. Then I will join all those other 38 lsb'ers shootin skip. From what I've read it also performs very well on am.

My President Madison is actually in between the 2nd and 3rd generations. Mine has the President logo on it, with the 3 push buttons in the lower right corner, and the analog clock. However, unlike the 2nd generation Madison, mine has the MB8719 board in it, from the 3rd generation Madison. I got it for 20 bucks from a friend of mine that was going to scrap the radio. I bought the matching speaker from another friend for 35 bucks, so total investment was 55 bucks. I got some time into fixing it up, but totally worth it. This radio has great receive, transmit and stays right on frequency. All the Madisons would be excellent choices for a SSB presidential base.
