WTB: Galaxy 99v2

Gonna post a reply just to bump this back up.

I’ve very much enjoyed mine the past 6.5-years and hope you’re able to find a nice example.

Ranger? A dime per dozen so many for sale.

Why no big DX-series Galaxy? (For sale). They occupy their own niche, and none others quite do the same.

Better or Worse? Not here nor there (in terms of feelings about the gear). Fun is a well-trimmed G while running the highway.

On-Air witticisms get heard. Men reach for their mics and off we go . . . .

My Unicorn arrived on Tuesday. Basically a like new in the box with the plastic still on the covers. (As Johnny Bench use to say “No runs, No drips, No errors). While on that subject how about a shout out to Marge Schott…those were the good ole days.

A special shout out also to the forum member who made this radio possible…no it was not UnderTaker, although I bet he has a NIB one on his shelf. Frequency coverage goes from 25165 to 28755. Low power 1.1 watt dead key to 9 watt high power on AM. On SSB low power is 23.6 pep to 39.2 pep on high. AM modulates to 45.5 regardless of the setting. (All test conducted into a dummy load)

Near as I can tell it is spot on frequency and SSB doesn’t sound bad. This is your basic smoke blowing radio capable of being over-modulated into oblivion or as Buzz Light Year would say “to infinity and beyond”. In fact that modulation brought to my attention that my Astatic TUP9D104-SKE needed to have the relays cleaned. A little WD40 contact cleaner sprayed on some nice heavy white paper sliding in between the contacts and things stopped crackling.

For all out smoke blowing modulation nothing beats the Silver Eagle. If your looking to tune it down just a smidge the Palomar SL-41 is awesome. From there the SRA-198 produces a nice clean sound. The echo is your typical outstanding Galaxy echo. I appreciate the automatic SWR circuit eliminating the need to calibrate and the 10kc push button. This radio just has a nice look and everything you could want except for a 6 digit frequency read out.

Attached are some pictures…also the new layout of my radio room. Just waiting for my second Telepost Monitor to arrive.
